2026 Applications for Women of Promise & Courage
Non-traditional Undergraduate Student Educational Scholarship Opportunity for Women
The Women of Promise & Courage scholarships were originally established by the Abilene Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW). AAUW has been empowering women as individuals and as a community since 1881. For more than 130 years, we have worked together as a national grassroots organization to improve the lives of millions of women and their families.

Winter Honoree Breakfast: Tuesday, February 24, 2026 (headshots & orientation)
Honors Luncheon: Monday, April 20, 2026 (official recognition & presentation)
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered, you must meet all of the following criteria:
Be a woman 25 years or older.
Be a resident of Abilene or one of the following surrounding counties: Brown, Callahan, Coleman, Comanche, Coke, Eastland, Fisher, Haskell, Jones, Kent, Knox, Mitchell, Nolan, Runnels, Scurry, Shackelford, Stephens, Stonewall, Taylor, and Throckmorton.
Be returning to education at least five years after completing high school, OR after previously attending and leaving a post-high school educational institution.
Be working toward acquiring your first degree.
Be currently enrolled in a local college/university/online program and have completed at least one semester of coursework.
Have a B (3.0) grade point average or above in all coursework.
Have selected a degree in a field that meets your stated objectives.
Scholarship Details
Award Amount: No less than $1,000.
Use of Funds: The award may be used for the summer, fall, or spring semester following the award.
Disbursement: Monies will be sent directly to the Financial Aid Office of the accredited institution indicated in this application.
Re-applicants: Prior applicants or recipients may re-apply, but preference will be given to new qualified applicants.
Supporting Documentation
All supporting documentation must be received by January 5, 2026.
Transcripts
Submit a transcript of all college work completed, including the current fall semester.
APPLICANT RESPONSIBILITY: It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that transcripts are received by the deadline.

Letters of Recommendation
You must submit minimum of three (3) letters of recommendation that address scholastic ability, character, personal background, and any other helpful information.
At least one letter must be from an instructor or employer.
APPLICANT RESPONSIBILITY: It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that all letters are received by the deadline.
Format Requirements:
Instructor or Employer: Must be written on institution letterhead and include: name and title/position, relationship to applicant, physical signature, and contact information.
Personal Reference: Must include: name, relationship to applicant, physical signature followed by a legible, printed/typed signature, and contact information.
